Dust off your notebook and find that favourite story, poem or song. Stories in the North is having an Open Mike on Sept. 23. Cash prizes are up for grabs. If you aren’t a writer or poet, come anyway. It’s a fun night and the audience decides who will win by secret ballot.

Thanks to our sponsors, Brent Rankin at the North Shore Sentinel, The BBC book club, Tina Johncox, and an anonymous donor we’ve got $50 to give to the winning performer in each of four categories: True Stories, Fiction, Poetry, and Words n’ Music. Plus, we’ll have some great snacks sponsored by Enjo with Cyndy King.

All entries must be original and written by the performer. We’ll accept song parodies in Words n’ Music.

Entrants will have five minutes to perform their pieces. After that, they’ll be dragged from the stage with the infamous hook. (It *has* happened. Just ask Thessalon’s Gordon Graham.)

If you want to enter, call Rhea McAdam at 705-785-3415 and tell her your name and the category you are entering. On Open Mike night, bring along $5 for your entry fee.

Audience members pay $7 admission. There will be a cash bar.

Location: Thessalon Legion 18 Algoma St., behind the Main St. Pharmacy.

Doors open at 7 pm.
