Mark Your Calendar: Sept 26th

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming author event on Sept. 26th with Lauren Carter. Lauren grew up in Blind River and has ancestors who lived on Manitoulin Island.

Her first novel, Swarm, was long-listed for Canada Reads 2014. It’s a great read about a small island community (similar to Manitoulin Island) trying to survive after the world’s oil supply has almost run out. The tale is one-part post-apocalyptic tale, one-part homesteading/survival narrative, one-part personal story about a couple coming to terms with each other. We are looking forward to Lauren’s day-long workshop on character development followed by an evening show where we’ll hear her read from and talk about her own work.

Equally thrilling is the fact our evening musical act includes CASS English teacher Christina Foster. She’s a fantastic singer. She’s read and enjoyed Lauren’s book  and, along with her musical partner Greg Maclachlan,  has chosen songs to go along with it. We can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with!

So, mark your calendars and email us or call Pauline Clark at 705-842-3132 to reserve a workshop spot. (Location: Thessalon’s Zion United Church at 10 am). We’re having the wonderful Fred Falls cater lunch again. We’ll have gluten-free options available. Be in contact if you have any other food allergies.

For the evening, simply show up at the door for 7 pm. (Location: Thessalon’s IOOF Hall, across the street from the post office on Main St.) We’ll have snacks and a cash bar available.

In the meantime, visit Lauren’s great blog, where she shares updates on her novel-in-progress, interviews with other authors, and fun tidbits about her life in The Pas, Manitoba.
